Bear Mountain Courses

There are two convenient places to park at Bear Mountain—the Ice Rink lot and Anthony Wayne lot. There is no charge to park at Anthony Wayne and as long as you arrive before 8:00 a.m., there is no charge at the Ice Rink lot (Hessian Lake). If you’re training for NFEC, the 13 mile half marathon course is a must. If you’re looking for a longer run, head to the Brien Memorial (Letterrock) and then turn left on Yellow. That loop will add 8 miles for about 22. Still not long enough? Try the marathon course or the 50k. There are plenty of additional trails you can follow to add some more miles. Word of caution, cell service is spotty at best and usually nonexistent. An app like Avenza can be useful (app is free, Harriman map is additional) since only a GPS signal is required, not cell service. Printed maps are also handy, you know, in case your phone dies.

Useful Files: Below are KML and GPX files of the various trails as well as PDF map of the NFEC. You can upload these trail files to an app like AllTrails (AllTrails.com), Google Earth, or use Avenza and purchase the NY/NJ Trail Association map of Harriman State park, load the .kml file as an overlay using the URLs.

Stay On Course

The Free Avenza Maps software now has a free trail map of the Reservation available here. I’ll make .kml files available as I can so you can load them as layer overlays. Now there’s no excuse to get lost.
