Mudders and Grunters, FDR Park

Westchester’s oldest trail race, the Mudders, and Grunters Cross Country Race will be run Sunday, March 24, at 10 am at FDR Park, Yorktown Heights. There will be race day registration ($35). All runners compete on the same approximately 5 mile, single loop course. The course is run off-road, through as much muck, mud, and water as we can find. Some hills are included as are multiple water crossings, depth is dependent on pre-race weather. Course difficulty is determined by the weather.

Leatherman’s Loop, Ward Pound Ridge Reservation

The Leatherman’s Loop is is a unique 10k trail run featuring river crossings, a quarry climb, beautiful pine forests, swamp land, and the Legend of the Leatherman. The Leatherman’s Loop was founded in 1987 and has been run every year since then. We believe it is the largest trail race east of the Mississippi River in the United States and possibly the third largest trail race* in the United States (depending on the year), with over 1,100 finishers in 2011, nearly 1,200 finishers in 2012, and over 1,200 finishers in 2013. Runners consistently say it is one of the best trail races out there.

Run the Farm is a series of trail races at Muscoot Farm in Katonah/Somers, NY. The race is put on to show off the beauty of the Muscoot park and to increase awareness of the weekly Muscoot Farmer’s market (Sundays from May-October) and other local farmer’s markets in the area.

Where the Pavement Ends 4 Mile Trail Race, Ridgefield, CT

4 mile trail run through Hemlock Hills in Ridgefield CT. Mix of fire road and singletrack that twists through areas that most of you will have never seen. Lots of fun to be had, probably a little sweat as well! You will know you have raced at the end. in a good way of course. Course will be well marked with an aid station at the half way point.

Paine to Pain, Trail Half Marathon, New Rochelle, NY

Paine to Pain is a giant single loop that winds its way through the woods and trails of five different lower Westchester parks. You never run the same trail twice and will spend 90% of your time on dirt (and rocks and roots) in the shade of the woods. Many of the trails are completely hidden from public view and host a wide variety of wildlife including deer, fox, coyote, hawks, owls, heron, wild turkey, rabbit and other critters.

Raven Rocks Run 10K Trail Race, Pound Ridge Reservation

The Raven Rocks 10k Run is a new trail run at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation in Cross River, NY. The race will start in the Meadow — same spot where the Leatherman’s Loop begins. But instead of heading down towards the river as the Loop does, the Fire Tower 10k course climbs up to the highest points in the park before heading back for a downhill and flat finish.
