On Sunday, June 26, at 8:00 a.m., meet at Ward Pound Ridge Trailside Museum for the Trailside to Overlook Run. You’ll have distances of 7.7, 6.3, or 5 miles but, as always, your mileage may vary. If you’re looking for even more miles, there are plenty of options for that as well. Looking to start a little early? Arrive at 7:00 a.m. for a warm-up. See the map here ››

On Saturday, June 25, at 7:00 a.m., I’m turning the point-to-point Ives Trail into an up to 30-mile, 4,400 feet gain, out-and-back. Meet at the Bennett’s Pond parking lot on Bennett’s Farm Road at 7:00 a.m. If you’re not up for the full 30 miles, no worries. Come out and run whatever distance you want as an out-and back course. See the map here ››

I’m putting together a run of the Escarpment trail on Saturday, July 2. Options of different distances up to 18 miles all on very technical trails in the Catskills. More information is here ›› and let me know if you’re interested.

Hope to see you out there this weekend.

This Sunday, June 19, at 8:00 a.m., meet at Westmoreland Sanctuary on Chestnut Ridge Road in Mount Kisco when we run the 5.25 mile perimeter loop. This time, we run the course in a counterclockwise direction and return to the main lot. Those who want an extra challenge can do the Butler loop across the street after the run. That will add another 3+ miles at least for a total of around 8.5. Those looking to start early can arrive at 7:00 a.m.

On Saturday, June 18, if you like hills, join me at the Ward Pound Ridge Kimberly Bridge lot for hill repeats up the blue trail. I’ll be running the “front” of the blue trail, elevation gain 400 feet, out-and-back distance 1.2 miles, starting at 6:00 a.m. and continuing for a while. You can join me or just meet there at 8:00 a.m. and run the Kimberly Bridge 6/9.5 loop.

I’m putting together a run of the Escarpment trail on Saturday, July 2. Options of different distances up to 18 miles all on very technical trails in the Catskills. More information is here ›› and let me know if you’re interested.

This Sunday, June 12, at 8:00 a.m., meet at Ward Pound Ridge Michigan Road Lot when we run the Michigan Road Gerrython. Gerry Sullivan has lent his considerable expertise in creating a 13-mile loop that includes some of the toughest trails in the Reservation. You have options for multiple distances from 5 to 13 miles (see map) so pick a distance, pick a color, and stay on course. Those looking to start early can arrive at 7:00 a.m. for a 4-mile warmup loop.

On Saturday, June 11, if you’re looking for a race, there’s the Huntington State Park Challenge in Redding, CT, with distances ranging from 5k to 20k. If you don’t want to race, I recommend meeting at the trail head to lookout point at Mountain Lakes Park and running the MLP 15K course, making the run as long or as short as you want it. We’ll be back here in a few weeks so this is a great opportunity to check out the trails.

Thanks for coming out for the run last weekend although I honestly didn’t know it was “wear your Mild Sprain shirt” day.

March 20, Leonard Park, Mt. Kisco

This Sunday, March 20, at 8:00 a.m., meet at the gazebo at Leonard Park in Mt. Kisco (see map) when we tackle some different trails. We’ll start in Leonard park, go through Marsh Sanctuary, Merestead, Butler Sanctuary, and for those looking for a long run, Westmoreland Sanctuary. Runners will have a choice of various distances.

5 Mile Run: Take the course through Marsh and Merestead to the Butler loop and return.
7.7 Mile Run: Follow the Butler loop which adds 2.7 to the run for a total of 7.7 miles.
10 Mile Run: Cross the road to Westmoreland Sanctuary for a short loop.
13.1 Mile Run (approx): Anyone interested in going farther can try the Leonard Park to Westmoreland Greenbelt Half Marathon  which adds the perimeter course of Westmoreland.

And as most of you know already, your mileage may vary. Anyone interested in getting an early start can arrive at 7:00 a.m. for a few extra miles. There you have it— a host of great options through five different parks. Hope to see you out there.

July 5, Michigan Road

Trail Running Map of Ward Pound Ridge Reservation, Westchester, New York. 6.5 Mile Rock Trail Loop
click for map page

This Sunday, July 5, at 8:00 a.m., meet at the Ward Pound Ridge Michigan Road lot and run the Rock Trail 6.5 mile loop. This course starts out easy enough with the Red/Yellow trail while you make your way to Raven Rocks. From there, proceed on the Rock Trail (RT) past Castle Rock, the aptly-named Stairs, Spy Rock, Bear Rock, Dancing Rock, and lots and lots of other rocks along the way. Lots of elevation changes on this course so you’re going to have a great run. See the map ››

Those looking to start early can arrive at 7:00 a.m. which should give you enough time to run to the Meadow, through the field to Schoolhouse Road, and return to Michigan Road in time for the 8:00 start. But bring a map, I don’t think I’ll make the early run this week.

And anyone looking to run Saturday, July 4, at 8:00 a.m. can meet at Westmoreland Sanctuary and run the 5.25 mile perimeter loop. If you want a longer run, cross the street to Butler and run some of the trails there.

And if you REALLY want to start your weekend off early, join us on Friday, July 3, at 8:00 a.m. at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation Meadow Lot and run the Meadow to Overlook 6.3 mile loop. This is a perennial favorite to start the weekend.

Hope to see you out here this weekend.

This Sunday, June 7, at 8:00 a.m., meet at the Nature Conservancy Butler Sanctuary on Chestnut Ridge Road in Mt. Kisco (see in Google maps) when we run a new combination of trails covering most of the park. Since Butler is a relatively small preserve, we’ll be running most of the trails there to get close to 5 miles. Don’t worry, you’ll still get a workout since the terrain has a lot of ups and downs. Meet in the Butler parking lot. See the map here ››
Looking to start early? Arrive at 7:00 a.m. for a pre-run loop.

Saturday, June 6, 8:00 a.m.
For anyone looking for a Saturday run, meet in the Ward Pound Ridge Reservation at the Michigan Road parking lot and run the Michigan to Kimberly 6 mile loop.

I hope to see you out there this weekend.

Night Run

Friday, January 2, at 7:00 p.m., meet at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation Michigan Road Lot (at the lean-to) for another night run. This time we’ll be headed into the Northern part of the park on the Michigan to Kimberly 6 mile loop. Those looking to do a shorter distance can follow the Brown trail from the meadow to Kimberly bridge for a run of 4.5 miles. We’ve reserved the lean-to and firewood, so bring a headlamp, some refreshments, snacks, some warm dry clothes, and plan to hang out for a while after the run. The cost of the rental is $100 which we’ll split among us. See the map ››

Sunday, September 8, 8:00 a.m.
This Sunday, meet at Westmoreland Sanctuary when we run 5.2 Mile Westmoreland Perimeter Loop. It’s been a while since we ran this course that was hit hard last year by Sandy but I’ve been assured that the trails are runnable and in good shape. I won’t have the chance to mark the trail in advance so bring a map and keep your eyes open for trail markers along the way. Those wanting a longer run can run part or all of the trail again or cross the road to Butler Sanctuary and add another 3.5 miles following the perimeter trails (see trail map). See Google Map ››

Saturday, September 7, 8:00 a.m.
This Saturday is the Katonah 5k Road and Trail Race. While a 5k might be a shorter distance than you’re used to, Christy’s first-place finish last week proved that shorter races have a place in anyone’s training schedule. And besides, it’s a great event benefitting a great cause. Learn more at Raceit.com.

Next week we’ll start the first of two course checks for the Sarah Bishop Bushwhack 10k Trail Race. We spent some time last weekend grooming the trail and know you’re going to love it. Registration is still open. And don’t forget to Run the Farm as well.

Hope to see you out there

December 2 Michigan to Dancing Rock

Change of Plan: The Westmoreland run will be rescheduled once the trails have been cleared.

On Sunday, December 2 at 8:00 am, meet at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation at the Michigan Road parking lot (see map) for a six-mile loop that is designed to take us on some trails we haven’t been on before. We’ll take in the view from the Overlook and follow a new trail the parks department has made over Dancing Rock without having to backtrack. You can view a map of the course here.

Next week, meet at the Trailside museum when we follow a new variation of the Trailside to Raven Rocks course. Also, for the run on December 23rd, I’m taking a poll so you can vote for the run of your choice. The run with most votes will be the one I schedule. Voting will begin on Sunday on this site.

Hope to see you there.
