SUMMARY:A Mild Sprain
DESCRIPTION:On Sunday\, June 4\, at 9:45 a.m.\, don’t miss out on the annual “A Mild Sprain” Trail Run (5 mile run/3 mile walk/hike) at Sprain Ridge Park\, Hastings-on-Hudson\, NY. “A Mild Sprain” is one of Westchester’s largest grassroots fundraisers. Over the past 10 years\, the event has raised funds to help research that supports JDRF’s mission—to cure\, treat and prevent Type 1 diabetes (T1D). The event draws people from the tri-state area bringing participants together for a worthy cause! \nThis is your moment to fundraise and help turn type one into type none! Know that every step\, every participant\, and every dollar brings us closer to our finish line—a world without T1D. All net proceeds go to JDRF whose mission is to find a cure for type 1 diabetes and its complications through the support of research. \nRegister ›› \nNot racing? Then on Sunday at 8:00 a.m.\, meet at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation\, Kimberly Bridge Lot\, and run the Kimberly Blue Loop. Cobweb Crew starts at 5:00 a.m. and Early Risers at 7:00 can join me in a few repeats of Blue that morning.

SUMMARY:Paine to Pain Half Marathon
DESCRIPTION:On Sunday\, October 9\, at 9:00 a.m.\, meet at Thomas Paine Cottage in New Rochelle to run Paine to Pain half maraton—a giant single loop that winds its way through the woods and trails of five different lower Westchester parks. You never run the same trail twice and will spend 90% of your time on dirt (and rocks and roots) in the shade of the woods. \nMany of the trails are completely hidden from public view and host a wide variety of wildlife including deer\, fox\, coyote\, turtles\, rabbits\, hawks\, owls\, herons\, wild turkeys\, bald eagles (as of April 2021)\, and other critters. \nWhere: Start/End in New Rochelle\, just 4 train stops north of midtown Manhattan. \nStart at Thomas Paine Cottage\, New Rochelle\, New York\, end at New Rochelle High School. (Both at the intersection of North Ave. and Broadview Ave.)

SUMMARY:34th Annual Leatherman’s Loop
DESCRIPTION:On Sunday\, April 24\, at 9:00 a.m.\, we’ll be meeting at the Meadow lot for the 34th annual Leatherman’s Loop. Cobweb Crew meets at 5:00 a.m. No Rookie Runners session or official 7:00 a.m. start this week. \nFor those who like to get organized ahead of time\, we will have early bib & shirt pickup at the entrance to Ward Pound Ridge Reservation on Saturday from 10am-12pm. We will be in the WPA Gallery across from the entrance booth. Come on over — it will make race day a bit less hectic for everyone! \nAnd don’t forget to ARRIVE EARLY! Please plan to arrive at the park before 8:15 a.m. — or even earlier if you can swing it. \nThe Ioop site has lots of good information so head over to leathermansloop.org for complete details. \nThe Leatherman’s Loop is a 10k trail race held each spring. The event has been held annually at the Ward Pound Ridge Reservation in Cross River\, NY since 1987 and we believe it is the largest trail race on the East Coast of the United States. \nThe Leatherman’s Loop was founded by four trail running friends in 1987. Tony Godino\, Dave Cope\, Ken Littlefield\, and Pete Thompson had run and explored every inch of trail at the Ward Pound Ridge Reservation (aka “The Rez“) — and had even created a few trails of their own. Some of these trails are  now part of the official trail system at the park. \nRoad Running was popular but trail running was still an esoteric pursuit that comparably few runners participated in. What the trail runners lacked for in numbers\, they made up in creativity and the desire to seek unique challenges. \nThe Challenge\nThe Loop was envisioned as a fun\, relaxed\, challenging\, yet “survivable” cross country/steeplechase event. \nThe Loop founders wanted to incorporate their favorite trail features they had come to love in their many runs at the Rez. Some runners believe the seeds of the current “Mud Races” and obstacle course runs were planted in 1987. We’re not so sure about that but it is nice to contemplate… The Loop is not really an obstacle course in the same sense as those newer event races. It does have its share of challenges and features\, but all are natural: the rivers\, the mud\, roots and rocks\, sand hills\, downed trees\, stone walls\, and slippery slopes are just some of what runners encounter. Not to mention the challenge of a 1\,200+ runner field sprinting across a quarter-mile meadow to start the race! \nFor more information\, visit leathermansloop.org \n\nPrint Map Download the PDF

SUMMARY:Where the Pavement Ends and More
DESCRIPTION:Where the Pavement Ends\nOn Sunday\, September 12\, 7:30 a.m.\, run Where the Pavement Ends\, a fun and challenging 4-plus miles of sometimes narrow\, sometimes hilly\, always beautiful trails. It is a great mix of fire road\, single track\, flats\, hills\, and one fast downhill section right towards the end. Park at the Ridgebury School\, Ridgefield\, CT and walk over the Serfilippi Field\, ready to run at 7:30 a.m. Looking for a longer run? Make it a double. This year’s race includes a double loop starting at 6:30 a.m. The course is marked with flags but you might want to bring a map anyway. Learn more and register ›› \nRookie Runners This is great race for rookies who never competed on trails before. Just be careful with your footing. \nNot Racing Today? Feeling a Little Blue?\nCome out and cheer everyone on or head over to the Rez\, Kimberly Bridge Lot\, at 8:00 a.m. and run the Blueathlon. What’s that you ask? See how many blue hill repeats you can run. The turnaround is marked by a stake about .6 miles and 400 feet of gain from the start of the blue trail. Or if you want a more civilized run\, try the Kimberly Blue Route. Cobweb Crew (5:00) and Early Risers (7:00) will be there I’m sure but bring your own maps\, I’m out this weekend. \nNorth Salem Race for Open Space\nLooking for a post-race activity? How about another race? North Salem Open Land Foundation is holding their inaugural 5K Race for Open Space at 10:30 in the Baxter Preserve. Learn more here ›› \n\nPrint Map Download the PDF
