SUMMARY:A Mild Sprain
DESCRIPTION:On Sunday\, June 5\, at 9:45 a.m.\, don’t miss out on the annual “A Mild Sprain” Trail Run (5 mile run/3 mile walk/hike) on Sunday\, June 5\, 2022\, at Sprain Ridge Park\, Hastings-on-Hudson\, NY. “A Mild Sprain” is one of Westchester’s largest grassroots fundraisers. Over the past 9 years\, the event has raised more than $880\,000 to help fund research that supports JDRF’s mission\, to cure\, treat and prevent Type 1 diabetes (T1D). The event draws people from the tri-state area bringing participants together for a worthy cause! \nThis is your moment to fundraise and help turn type one into type none! Know that every step\, every participant\, and every dollar brings us closer to our finish line—a world without T1D. All net proceeds go to JDRF whose mission is to find a cure for type 1 diabetes and its complications through the support of research. \nRegister ›› \nNot racing? Then on Sunday at 8:00 a.m.\, meet at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation\, Meadow Lot\, and run the Meadow Northern Loop. Options include 5.5\, 6.5\, and 8-mile loops. Cobweb Crew starts at 5:00 a.m.; Early Risers at 7:00. Since the Mild Sprain doesn’t start until 9:45\, you can get a warmup in early then drive to the race. What could be better than that?

SUMMARY:REDRUN
DESCRIPTION:On Memorial Day\, Monday\, May 30\, at 7:00 a.m.\, meet at Michigan Road Lot to test yourself and find out who’s going to get the crown on one counterclockwise loop of Red. It’s simple. 5.32 miles. The current course records are 36:09 for Chris Irwin and 41:50 for Julie Piddington although the competition for the leaderboards is fierce. No cost to enter. No flags on the course. No prize money. Just bragging rights if you’re able to take the crown.\n \nWhile there will be bragging rights for who finishes first on the day\, the real test is who claims the top of the Leaderboard so watch Strava afterward as runners post their runs. The official loop starts and ends past the gate (see the segment) but depending on how many are running\, you’ll be starting on the asphalt. \nSee the segment map and leaderboard ›› \nAlternatively\, if you’re not interested in racing\, we could run a course that will take us to Raven Rocks and then the “secret overlook” which has the best view of the morning sun. No prizes for that either\, just some nice views.

SUMMARY:Zofnass Family Preserve Run
DESCRIPTION:This Saturday\, May 28\, at 7:00 a.m\, meet at the Zofnass Family Preserve on Upper Shad Road in Pound Ridge (see Google Map) when we take a break from our epic Saturday runs and run everyone’s favorite labyrinthian preserve with a network of trails noted for its crags and rock outcrops. Meet at the main entrance and we’ll follow a perimeter loop making all right turns except for exiting the park. We’ll make a 6-mile loop counter-clockwise around the preserve this time excluding the orange\, western loop. If you’re looking to turn this into a long run\, I’d suggest you explore the Zofnass to Mianus River Gorge run of 16 miles. \nPrint Map Download the PDF

SUMMARY:Flower Blood Moon Run—CANCELLED
DESCRIPTION:FORECAST shows 85% cloud cover for tonight so I’m going to cancel the run. If it clears up\, you can always head over to the Meadow Lot for the eclipse anyway—it’s a great place to see it. \nOn Sunday\, May 15\, at 11:00 p.m.\, meet at Lewisboro Town Park for a special night run—the Flower Blood Moon run. May’s full moon is the Flower Moon so we’ll head over to the Meadow Lot where we should catch the start of the full lunar eclipse which should cast the moon into a red glow. The full eclipse will last about an hour and a half but we’ll hang out long enough to get a good view then head back. Inclimate weather cancels as does overcast sky. Will update this post Sunday if necessary.

SUMMARY:34th Annual Leatherman’s Loop
DESCRIPTION:On Sunday\, April 24\, at 9:00 a.m.\, we’ll be meeting at the Meadow lot for the 34th annual Leatherman’s Loop. Cobweb Crew meets at 5:00 a.m. No Rookie Runners session or official 7:00 a.m. start this week. \nFor those who like to get organized ahead of time\, we will have early bib & shirt pickup at the entrance to Ward Pound Ridge Reservation on Saturday from 10am-12pm. We will be in the WPA Gallery across from the entrance booth. Come on over — it will make race day a bit less hectic for everyone! \nAnd don’t forget to ARRIVE EARLY! Please plan to arrive at the park before 8:15 a.m. — or even earlier if you can swing it. \nThe Ioop site has lots of good information so head over to leathermansloop.org for complete details. \nThe Leatherman’s Loop is a 10k trail race held each spring. The event has been held annually at the Ward Pound Ridge Reservation in Cross River\, NY since 1987 and we believe it is the largest trail race on the East Coast of the United States. \nThe Leatherman’s Loop was founded by four trail running friends in 1987. Tony Godino\, Dave Cope\, Ken Littlefield\, and Pete Thompson had run and explored every inch of trail at the Ward Pound Ridge Reservation (aka “The Rez“) — and had even created a few trails of their own. Some of these trails are  now part of the official trail system at the park. \nRoad Running was popular but trail running was still an esoteric pursuit that comparably few runners participated in. What the trail runners lacked for in numbers\, they made up in creativity and the desire to seek unique challenges. \nThe Challenge\nThe Loop was envisioned as a fun\, relaxed\, challenging\, yet “survivable” cross country/steeplechase event. \nThe Loop founders wanted to incorporate their favorite trail features they had come to love in their many runs at the Rez. Some runners believe the seeds of the current “Mud Races” and obstacle course runs were planted in 1987. We’re not so sure about that but it is nice to contemplate… The Loop is not really an obstacle course in the same sense as those newer event races. It does have its share of challenges and features\, but all are natural: the rivers\, the mud\, roots and rocks\, sand hills\, downed trees\, stone walls\, and slippery slopes are just some of what runners encounter. Not to mention the challenge of a 1\,200+ runner field sprinting across a quarter-mile meadow to start the race! \nFor more information\, visit leathermansloop.org \n\nPrint Map Download the PDF
