SUMMARY:Night Run
DESCRIPTION:On Friday\, June 2\, at 7:00 p.m.\, meet at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation\, lean-to 10\, just past the Bergfield picnic area on Reservation Road\, for a special Night Run. Bring a headlamp for the run—sunset is at 8:21 so you may be back before dark—and some food or drink for\, you know\, recovery afterward. And get ready for a fun evening around the campfire. Bring a few dollars to help cover the cost and thank Matt Hart for spearheading this. \n\nPrint Map Download the PDF

SUMMARY:Town Park to Green
DESCRIPTION:This Saturday\, June 3\, at 7:00 a.m\, meet at the Lewisboro Town Park upper parking lot (see map) when we run the Town Park to Green course. This course gives you options of 4\, 6\, and 8 miles of mixed-terrain fun. When you get to the Mill Site\, follow the CB trail to Michigan Road Lot—the map shows an old bushwhack that we don’t need to do. Early Risers start at 6:00 for additional miles \nRookie Runners start at 7:00 for a shorter distance and easier pace. \n\nPrint Map Download the PDF

SUMMARY:A Mild Sprain
DESCRIPTION:On Sunday\, June 4\, at 9:45 a.m.\, don’t miss out on the annual “A Mild Sprain” Trail Run (5 mile run/3 mile walk/hike) at Sprain Ridge Park\, Hastings-on-Hudson\, NY. “A Mild Sprain” is one of Westchester’s largest grassroots fundraisers. Over the past 10 years\, the event has raised funds to help research that supports JDRF’s mission—to cure\, treat and prevent Type 1 diabetes (T1D). The event draws people from the tri-state area bringing participants together for a worthy cause! \nThis is your moment to fundraise and help turn type one into type none! Know that every step\, every participant\, and every dollar brings us closer to our finish line—a world without T1D. All net proceeds go to JDRF whose mission is to find a cure for type 1 diabetes and its complications through the support of research. \nRegister ›› \nNot racing? Then on Sunday at 8:00 a.m.\, meet at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation\, Kimberly Bridge Lot\, and run the Kimberly Blue Loop. Cobweb Crew starts at 5:00 a.m. and Early Risers at 7:00 can join me in a few repeats of Blue that morning.

SUMMARY:Workout Wednesday—Strides on Blue
DESCRIPTION:Are you looking to amp up your running? Add hill repeats and speed work on Wednesdays at 5:30 a.m. This week\, meet at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation\, Kimberly Bridge Lot\, at 5:30 a.m.\, for 90 minutes of stride workout. We’ll warm up with a loop of DH to Reservation Road then head over to Blue for the workout. \nStrides are 15- to 30-second accelerations to the fastest pace you can go without straining\, with 2 minutes easy running recovery between. The cap at 30 seconds is to prevent too much stress\, which could undermine the aerobic system. Repeat 6 times heading out\, easy run to the end of blue\, then turn around and repeat another 6 before finishing at Kimberly Bridge. Cool down with an out-and-back on brown. \n\nEase into the effort\, with the first 5 seconds gradually building pace\, emphasizing longer strides before rapid turnover;\nRun tall through the hips\, with a slight forward lean;\nUse long-distance form\, with normal arm carriage and a relaxed upper body;\nInstead of increasing cadence as high as you can go\, emphasize knee drive and output-per-stride at a smooth effort.\n\nPut it all together\, and it usually equates to between the speed an athlete could race 800 meters to a mile (for beginner to intermediate athletes) or a mile to 3K or even 5K (for intermediate to very advanced athletes). Keep in mind\, while Blue is relatively flat an non-technical\, there are portions of the trail that are less so. Try to avoid your maximum pace in those areas.

SUMMARY:Fabulous Fahnestock Preview
DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, June 17\, at 7:00 a.m.\, meet at the 14\,000-acre Clarence Fahnestock Memorial State Park\, at the Big Woods parking lot off Route 301 (GPS Glynwood Farm or Topfield Equestrian Center for directions) for the first preview of the Fabulous Fahnestock Trail Race by Run Wild. This 12.5 mile course will follow the 50k route which is different than on the website. You don’t need to be registered for the event to enjoy the mix of trails. Travel time is about an hour from us so we can meet at the Woods Bridge Lot in Katonah at 6:00 and share rides. Please be prepared to be self-sufficient for 3-4 hours. Organizers will attempt to drop water at mile 8 but can’t make any promises.\nThe Strava route is available here ›› If you’re looking to stay closer to home\, I’d suggest grab your own map and run the 7.5 mile course on the classic Michigan Zig-Zag map starting at 7:00. Early Risers can meet at Michigan Road and start at 6:00. \n\nPrint Map Download the PDF

SUMMARY:Dancing Rockish Run
DESCRIPTION:On Sunday\, June 18\, at 8:00 a.m.\, meet at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation\, Michigan Road Lot\, ready to run the Dancing Rockish run. We’re only six months away from the annual running of the Dancing Rock Run and this course follows much of the Dancing Rock route but doesn’t include the bushwhacks. In fact\, since we’re in high tick season\, avoid the bushwhack from Fox Hill and continue on the FH trail and turn right on Orange. That will add a little to the overall length but no one ever complained that they didn’t have enough miles from my courses. Cobweb Crew starts at 5:00\, Early Risers at 7:00. \nRookie Runners start at 7:00 for a shorter distance and easier pace. \n\nPrint Map Download the PDF

SUMMARY:Workout Wednesday—Blue Hill Repeats
DESCRIPTION:Are you looking to amp up your running? Add hill repeats and speed work on Wednesdays at 5:30 a.m. This week\, meet at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation\, Kimberly Bridge Lot\, at 5:30 a.m.\, for 90 minutes of Hill Repeats. At a 13% average incline\, the Blue Hill segment is one of the steepest in the Rez and the perfect training ground for any upcoming race. The .6 mile uphill contains just over 400 feet of vertical gain while the downhill is a great quad-shredding exercise. If you need to train with poles\, this is a good course to do so. We’ll aim for 4 or 5 repeats and see what we have left after that.

SUMMARY:Bowdoin Bushwhack
DESCRIPTION:Race director (and multi-time winner of the Loop) Gerry Sullivan says anyone can race on a weekend. The toughest do it on a weekday. Anyone can relax and rewind after a day of work but how about a nice trail run on a gorgeous (hopefully) summer evening? Sounds good? Then join us at Bowdoin Park for the Bowdoin Buswhack five-ish miles of hills and dales\, rocks and roots\, grass and dirt touring all over the expanse of Bowdoin Park in Wappingers Falls\, New York. \nRace Hub: Pavilion 2\nStart/Finish on soccer field at bottom of park.\nPrizes are delicious cupcakes from Sweetbakes Cafe in nearby Poughkeepsie\, with the Overall Champs also getting a nesting doll from the legendary pink house on 9D!
