DESCRIPTION:On Sunday\, December 20\, at 5:00 a.m.\, get ready to run a very special course—The Dancing Rock Ultra. This course revives a race created by Tony Godino and Dave Cope around the time the Loop was invented but adds a whole lot more. 50k runners will first complete a perimeter loop\, then meet up with the main group at 8:00 for the classic Dancing Rock Run 7.5 miler. \nStage 1: Perimeter Loop Starts Promptly at 5:00 a.m. Arrive a little early to sign in. I’ll take names in the lot.\nComplete perimeter loop as shown on the map\, approximately 12 miles\, and return to your vehicle which will serve as your aid station. You do not need to wait for the main group—continue onto stage 2 when you’re ready. This year\, because of Covid-19 precautions\, we will not have a roaring file and aid station at lean-to 5. Everyone is responsible for their own aid at their vehicles. \nStage 2: Start the Dancing Rock 12k course approximately 8:00 a.m.\nRun the Classic Dancing Rock 12k Course following all flags and bushwhacks. GPX and KML files for this section are posted to help you navigate. I will drop a book at Dancing Rock on the morning of the run. Runners\, tear out the next page in the book as proof you’ve made it to that point. I’ll post a form on the site for you to enter the page number and first three words as proof. Return to your vehicle after the run. \nStage 3: Reverse direction on the Dancing Rock 12k course\nRun the Classic Dancing Rock Course in the reverse direction following all flags and bushwhack. Tear a second page from the book at Raven Rocks \nStage 4: Complete the final loop\nComplete the final loop of the course heading up FH one last time and returning via Red/Yellow. \nThis is not a race. Below is a “Stroller’s Map” that was sold for a quarter at the “Trading Post” at the Rez from the 1950s through the 1970s. The map shows landmarks and trails that were known at the time. You’ll recognize a lot of these but some are unfamiliar. Let’s explore a little. I’ve found some of these old trails though you might call them enthusiastic bushwhacks today. I’ve found the Waterfall and Lemon Squeezer but I’m curious about the “caves” on Joe’s hill and the trails leading to Honey Hollow and Bostock Hill. Let’s do some exploring. DESCRIPTION:On Sunday\, September 6\, at 5:00 a.m.\, meet at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation\, Michigan Road Lot\, ready to run the first ever Pound Ridge 50k. Runners will make four loops—a 12 mile perimeter loop starting at 5:00\, an 8 1/2 mile loop starting at 8:00\, and two 5 1/2 mile loops of the Red trail. You’ll be returning to your cars between loops which will be your aid stations—bring what you need to complete the run since this is a self-supported 50k. Not up for the full distance\, arrive at 8:00 a.m. and complete the 8 1/2 mile loop and continue as far as you want. There’s no t-shirt\, no swag\, but no cost for this do-it-yourself ultra.
