Saturday at Mountain Lakes Park. We checked the course for the Mountain Lakes Backyard Ultra. It was right where we left it. The race this year is August 20 for anyone interested.

August 6, 2021 @ 8:00 pm – 11:00 pmOn Friday, August 6, at 8:00 p.m., meet at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation, Trailside Museum Lot, for a special Night Run. Dave Mann has reserved Lean-to 7 for us for the evening so come prepared to run, then sit back and chill at the campfire afterward. Lean-to 7 is near the Trailside Museum, up the hill from the Bergfield Picnic Area. We’ll start the run just at sunset and head to Michigan Road, Green Trail, and Raven Rocks before returning. The moon will be a waning crescent and will set just before sundown so this night run will be a dark one. Bring a headlamp, some food or drink for, you know, recovery, a couple of bucks to recoup the cost, and get ready for a fun evening.

Just a reminder, it’s tick season. Shower and check your skin over after runs, use a bug spray with Deet on your shoes, legs, and arms before a run, and I recommend light-color calf sleeves that have been sprayed with permethrin and allowed to dry. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of doxycycline.
We’re welcoming new runners onto the trails through the Rookie Runners Program. On Sundays at 7:00 a.m., runners new to the trails will run with a trail ambassador who can answer any questions and help to make the run an easy and enjoyable event. Then, when you’re ready, join the group at 8:00 for the full run. If you’ve wanted to start running trails but were intimidated, this is your chance to get involved. Learn more here ››
