Sylvan Glen/Granite Knolls Park 10K

Tucked away on a hillside in northern Westchester County, NY, Sylvan Glen Nature Preserve is the site of a former quarry which supplied a honey-colored granite for the approaches to the George Washington and Whitestone bridges. The property was purchased in 1981 and was opened as a park when additional adjoining properties were acquired. Quarries of various sizes and remnants of the operations are located throughout the western portion of the park. The subsequent acquisition of adjacent land extended the park onto former farmland and provided another entrance to the park. Across Stoney Street, you’ll enter Granite Knolls Park where you’ll follow the map to the giant boulder before returning.

If you want to continue your run, you can follow the perimeter of Granite Knolls and cross a bridge over the Taconic State Parkway into Woodlands Legacy Fields Park and add an extra 2.5 miles of the perimeter loop there.
