SUNDAY

On Sunday, January 6, at 8:00 a.m., meet at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation Meadow lot ready to run the Meadow to Armstrong course. This 7-mile course starts in the reservation, then crosses over to Richard’s Preserve and Armstrong before returning back. The entire course is 7 miles but if you want to cut it short, the looped portion is about 5. And if you’re looking for something longer, well, feel free to improvise. Early birds can arrive at 5:00 or 7:00 for an extra 8 and 4 miles respectively. See the map ››

SATURDAY

On Saturday, January 5, at 7:00 a.m., meet at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation Kimberly Bridge Lot and plan on a little off-trail running exploration. Last Sunday we visited the Bosque Encantado and since that run, I’ve learned that more of these paintings can be found in the area (see them here). Let’s meet and find them. Final course to be determined but we could run variations of the Bosque Encantado run as time permits. See the map ››

Meanwhile, enjoy the group photo from the inaugural 2019 run below…

On Tuesday, January 1, at 8:00 a.m., start the new year off right with some fun. Meet at Lewisboro Town Park Upper Lot when we run one of Peeter’s Fun Loops. All of these loops incorporate the “Fun Climb” segment in the Rez so no matter which loop you take, you have a chance to get your crown on that climb. Good luck with that.

I’ll post next week’s runs later in the week but hope to see you on Tuesday.

SUNDAY

On Sunday, December 30, at 8:00 a.m., we’ll celebrate our final Sunday run of the year with the Bosque Encantado 8-mile run. Options include the full run and various shorter distances but all of them pass by the Bosque Encantado, a special off-trail knoll that holds a very odd secret. On our way, we’ll get to explore a new trail and take another new trail in the making. Looking to start early? Arrive at5:00 a.m. for an 8-mile loop and 7:00 a.m. for an additional 4. See the map ››

SATURDAY

On Saturday, December 29, at 7:00 a.m., meet at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation Michigan Road Lot and help me de-flag last Sunday’s Run. If you missed last week’s Dancing Rock Run or you want more of it, then this is the run for you. I’ll be running the same course but picking up any remaining flags as I go. Last chance for this course.

Enjoy the photo from last week’s Dancing Rock Run. Judging by the handwritten comments on the pages you brought back, you had fun. No one completed the inaugural 50k course but don’t worry, train up, I’ll be putting this on as an annual event this time of the year.

SUNDAY

On Sunday, December 23, at 8:00 a.m., meet at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation Michigan Road Lot ready to run a very special course—The Dancing Rock Run. This course revives a race that was held by Tony Godino and Dave Cope around the time the Loop was invented and includes a couple of bushwhacks and lots of fun trails. I’ve included the original 12K course that will start at 8:00 a.m. plus a new 50K course starting at 5:00 a.m.

SATURDAY

On Saturday, December 22, at 7:00 a.m., meet at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation Michigan Road Lot and help me flag Sunday’s Run. Since there are multiple bushwhacks on this course, I’ll need to lightly flag the course so that you can find your way. If you’d like to give me a hand, meet me at 7:00 a.m.

Meanwhile, enjoy the picture of the groups from this past week’s runs at Blue Mountain and the Meadow.

SUNDAY

On Sunday, December 16, at 8:00 a.m., meet at Blue Mountain in the lot past the main lodge ready to run a double-loop course totaling 7 miles. Kevin Rader will lead runners on a four-mile loop on some of the larger trails that will take us up to Blue Mountain. Then once we’re back at the cars, start a second, three-mile loop marked in green on the map (see map here ››). The second loop follows the Taconic Road Runners Cross Country Relay which will start at 10:00 a.m. Early birds can start at 7:00 a.m. at Blue Mountain (or 5:00 a.m. at the Meadow Lot in the Rez). Then hang out after the run and form some teams to compete in the Taconic Road Runner’s Cross Country Relay Race.  More about the race and registration here ››

On Sunday, December 16, at 8:00 a.m., if you can’t make it to Blue Mountain for that XC Relay Races, meet at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation Meadow Lot ready to run some twisted loops. Arrive at 5:00 a.m. and run the purple course. At 7:00 a.m., run a 4-mile loop, and at 8:00 a.m., run the Orange Loop. Since the XC relays start at 10:00, you can stop at 8:00 and make the race or stop at 7:00 and make the run at Blue Mountain. So many options. See the map here ››

SATURDAY

On Saturday, December 15, at 7:00 a.m., meet at the trailhead to Lookout Point in Mountain Lakes Park ready to run a special course. Bushwhacking may be involved. Runners should definitely have a sense of humor for this 10k-ish run. While we’ll be running some of the trails on this map, we’ll definitely be “off map.”

Hope to see you out there this weekend.

SUNDAY

This Sunday, December 9, at 8:00 a.m., meet at the Zofnass Family Preserve in Pound Ridge (259 Upper Shad Road, see Google Map) when we run everyone’s favorite labyrinthian preserve with a network of trails noted for its crags and rock outcrops. Meet at the main entrance and follow a 6-mile perimeter loop counterclockwise making all right turns except for exiting the park, and excluding the orange, western loop. See the map page here. Those looking to start early can arrive at 7:00 a.m. which should give us enough time to run the Southern and Central Roundabout loops.

SATURDAY

You’re on your own on Saturday. Good luck.

Hope to see you out there this weekend.

SUNDAY

This Sunday, November 25, at 8:00 a.m, meet at the Lewisboro Town Park upper parking lot (see map) when we  run a perennial favorite—the Fat Ass Run. With the bridge out, I’ve rerouted the course  but it’s still seven plus miles (with options for longer and shorter distances)—the perfect antidote to the tryptophan-laden butterball (or Tofurkey?) from Thanksgiving dinner.  The fresh air will wake you up, you’ll feel reinvigorated, plus, as an added bonus, you’ll work up an appetite to help you finish those leftovers still cluttering up your fridge. Anyone interested in getting an early start can arrive at 5:00 a.m. or 7:00 a.m. See map page ››

SATURDAY

This Saturday, November 24, at 7:00 a.m., meet at Tusk and Cup coffee shop in Ridgefield and prepare to run the 11 mile Brew to Brews run through Devil’s Den and Saugatuck. Options include the full 11 miles and an abbreviated 6 mile version. See the details here and contact me if you’re interested.

FRIDAY

On Friday, November 23, at 8:00 a.m., meet at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation Meadow lot ready to run the Meadow to Armstrong course. This is the perfect way to burn off those extra calories and get some fresh air. The entire course is 7 miles but if you want to cut it short, the looped portion is about 5. And if you’re looking for something longer, well, feel free to improvise. See the map ››

THURSDAY

This Thanksgiving, November 22, at 7:00 a.m., meet at Lewisboro Town Park for a special Thanksgiving Run. We’ll follow the Town park to Overlook route but since the bridge is out, we’ll have to make some changes. We’ll run down DH to the Meadow Lot then follow the CB trail to Michigan Road. SUNDAY

Sorry folks, Sunday’s Leonard Park run will have to wait. With all of the rain, parts of the course are tmore trouble than they’re worth. We’ll try again in the spring. So, this Sunday, November 18, at 8:00 a.m., meet at Westmoreland Sanctuary on Chestnut Ridge Road in Mount Kisco when we run the 5.25 mile perimeter loop. This time, we run the course in a counterclockwise direction and return to the main lot. Those who want an extra challenge can do the Butler loop across the street after the run. That will add another 3+ miles at least for a total of around 8.5. See the map ››

For those looking to start early, this will be somewhat of a moveable feast.
5:00 a.m. Meet at Meyer preserve, parking on the Sarles Street lot opposite Bretton Ridge Road. We’ll return to the cars at round 6:40 and drive to Butler Preserve.
7:00 a.m. Meet at Butler preserve and run a perimeter loop
then head over to Westmoreland at 8:00.

SATURDAY

On Saturday, November 17, at 7:00 a.m., meet at Ward Pound Ridge Meadow Lot ready to run the Meadow to Green Loop. This great course winds through some of the smaller trails in the park and gives you some options for different distances. But bring your own maps on this, I’m not sure I’ll make it.

I’ll be posting runs on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday of next week. Anyone who has a suggestion, let me know and I’ll see what I can do. Hope to see you out there this weekend.

Meanwhile, enjoy the photo from Raven Rocks Run and congratulations to everyone who came out to run or volunteer.

SUNDAY

On Sunday, November 11, at 9:00 am., meet at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation in Cross River, NY, when we run the Fourth Annual Raven Rocks Run. The race will start in the Meadow — same spot where the Leatherman’s Loop begins. But instead of heading down towards the river as the Loop does, the course climbs up to the highest points in the park, past the old fire tower, before heading back for a downhill and flat finish. SATURDAY

On Saturday, November 10, at 6:45 a.m., meet at the Bear Mountain Ice Skating Rink (Seven Lakes Drive, Tomkins Cove, NY 10986) ready to run the Five Sisters—a 13.8 mile loop with 3,400 feet of elevation gain. Kevin Rader will be heading up the run and you can see a previous version of the same here ›› We’ll hit the summits of Bear, West, Timp, Dunderberg, and Bald (in order).  There’s a story that goes along with the run and you can read about the legend of the five sisters here ››

SUNDAY

This Sunday, November 4, at 8:00 a.m., meet at Lewisboro Town Park Upper Lot when we run a new variation of  The Crazy 8 Run. This 8-mile, figure-8 course will take us on the Blue trail and over the fire tower. But this version replaces the original direction so you’ll be going up the new  Blue trail and taking a slight bushwhack from the side trail after the Fire Tower to get back to Blue. If you’re not up for the full distance, turn back at Kimberly Bridge for a respectable 4.5 mile run. Early birds can start at 5:00 a.m.or 7:00 a.m. for an 8-mile and 4-mile loop respectively.

There are a couple of races on Sunday as well—Hidden Valley 15k and Conquer the Forest 5k—so you have some great options for the weekend.

click for map

SATURDAY

On Saturday, November 3, at 7:00 a.m., meet at the Redding Train Station (3 Long Ridge Road, Redding, CT) ready to run the 17 mile Ives Trail. We’ll take as few cars as necessary to Bennett’s Pond where we’ll start the run at around 7:15. This is a self-supported 17 mile course stretching from Ridgefield to Redding and we’ll explore a new section near the end that avoids one road in favor of more trails. If you’d like to meet us along the way instead of doing the full run, let me know and I can give you some options. See the map here ››

On Sunday, October 28, at 8:00 a.m., meet at Ward Pound Ridge Meadow Lot and come ready to run the Raven Rocks Course. Here’s your chance to get a preview of the Raven Rocks Run on November 11. Those wanting to start early can arrive at 5:00 for an eight-mile loop or 7:00 for a four-mile loop. This will be the only course check for the race so if you want a preview, this is it.

SATURDAY

On Saturday, October 27, at 7:00 a.m., meet at 33 Clearpool Road, Carmel, when we preview the Conquer the Forest 5K course. Meet at the dining hall parking lot—the blue parking symbol on the map—ready to run the 5K course which has just about every type of terrain anyone could want in a race: long gradual slopes, lakeside trails, undulating hilltops, remote meadows, technical rocky trails, and open fields. Anyone interested in more of an adventure can head out again and take a bushwhack over to Nimham Mountain to the Fire Tower. It looks like Saturday’s run will be a wet one but it’s on nonetheless. You may want to print your own map, though, in case I can’t make it there. Download the PDF ››Learn more and register for the race ››

Hope to see you out there this weekend, or Tuesday for our final Trail Tuesday of the year.

SATURDAY

On Saturday, October 13, at 7:00 a.m., meet at Ward Pound Ridge Meadow Lot and run one of the Meadow to Overlook Loop. Bring a map though, I won’t be at this run. There are a couple great races on Saturday as well so check out the calendar to learn more about those.

See you next Sunday at Run the Farm. If you haven’t registered yet, time is running out.
