Sunday: The Stairmaster

On Sunday, October 6, at 8:00 a.m., meet at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation, Michigan Road lot, ready to suffer on The Stairmaster, also known as the Michigan to Spy Rock 7 Mile Loop. This trail starts on FH and features both the Magic Stairs and The Stairs to Spy Rock, so you can “enjoy” ample elevation change. There are options for shortening the distance if you are so inclined. Early risers can start at 5:00, 6:00, or 7:00 and run any of the Michigan 8 x 4 loops except for the magenta one but bring your own maps, Lee has the early shift off. Let’s celebrate Lee and Jeff’s last Sunday run in style before they embark on their Midstate Massive 100 adventure.

Saturday: Multi-Park Madness

On Saturday, October 5, at 6:30 a.m., meet at the parking lot at Turkey Mountain, 842 Croton Heights Rd, Yorktown Heights, NY 10598, ready to run a new course courtesy of Kevin Rader—The Multi-Park Madness Run. This 12.8 mile (which should end up being more like 13.1) point-to-point, 6 parks (Sylvan Glen, Granite Knolls, Woodlands Legacy, FDR, Downing Park, Turkey Mountain) + the North County Trail, stitches together a unique combination of trails just ready to be explored. We’ll meet at 6:30 at the end and take a minimum number of cars to the start. If you’re not up for the full run (because you’re training for a long race the next week, say), we’ll be able to drop cars, and water, at FDR park halfway through to make it a 6-mile run. This is one you won’t want to miss.

Thank you

Thank you all for coming out to Sarah Bishop this past Sunday. We had a spectacular day and I think after 7 years of tinkering with the course, we may have found the ultimate combination of trails and not-quite-trails. And a special thanks to our volunteers who help clean the course, park the cars, direct the traffic, mark the course, get everyone registered, hand out awards, photograph the race, and help clean up afterwards. Without you, we could not make this happen. Mark your calendars now for September 27, 2020, when we run the 8th annual Sarah Bishop Bushwhack.

Stay On Course

The Free Avenza Maps software now has a free trail map of the Reservation available here. I’ll make .kml files available as I can so you can load them as layer overlays. Now there’s no excuse to get lost.
