This Sunday, February 12, at 8:00 a.m., meet at the Ward Pound Ridge Reservation Meadow Lot when we run the RAVEN LUNATIC—all of the fun of the Raven Rocks Run but with snow and no trail markers! If you want to get an early start, arrive at 7:00 a.m. for a few extra miles. Those crazy enough can bring headlamps and start at 6:00 a.m.See the map page ››
Like hills? Need a break from all those flat trails? This is the run for you. On Saturday, February 11, at 7:00 a.m., meet at Ward Pound Ridge Kimberly Bridge lot for a special Blueathlon and run as many hill repeats up blue as time (and legs) permit. The course is .6 miles each way with an elevation gain of just over 400 feet—an average 13{accc40b09832ee94a70b9d38053be2da501a998c4b43b97565b1c370fb270371} grade. We’ll be starting at 7:00 a.m. (even in the snow) but show up when you can and run as many repeats as you want—it will be, you know, “fun!”
We’ll be at Bennett’s Pond next weekend. Hope to see you out there this weekend.
This Sunday, December 18, at 8:00 a.m., meet at the Ward Pound Ridge Trailside Museum when we run the Museum to Blue Route. This 7-mile course starts down the Orange trail and winds its way to Raven Rocks and back by the Blue trail. While it’s 7 miles, the course avoids the steepest uphills (you’re welcome). Options are listed for 6.5 mile and 5.75 mile options as well. Anyone interested in starting early can arrive by 7:00 a.m. for a shorter loop. I see that we’re expecting some snow on Saturday so this may be our first true Winter run of the season. I’ve posted some winter running tips for those who find them helpful.
And anyone looking for a run on Saturday, December 17, at 8:00 a.m., meet at the Ward Pound Ridge Reservation Trailside Museum and run the Trailside to Tower loop. I put the hills on Saturday, just so you know, but bring your own maps.
On Sunday, December 4, at 8:00 a.m., meet at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation Michigan Road lot and run some of the southern trails on the Michigan Red/Rock loop. We’ll start at Michigan Road and take some of the wider paths to the Rock Trail where the course narrows and the hills begin. We’ll go up the stairs to Spy Rock then up more to the overlook before returning to Michigan Road on a nice downhill finish. Lots of hills on this great run and some options to shorten or lengthen the run as well. Those looking to do some extra miles can arrive at 7:00 a.m. for a 4 mile loop.
This Sunday, November 6, at 8:00 a.m., meet at the Zofnass Family Preserve in Pound Ridge (259 Upper Shad Road, see Google Map) when we run everyone’s favorite labyrinthian preserve with a network of trails noted for its crags and rock outcrops. Meet at the main entrance and follow a 6-mile perimeter loop counterclockwise making all right turns except for exiting the park, and excluding the orange, western loop. See the map page here. Those looking to start early can arrive at 7:00 a.m. which should give us enough time to run the Southern and Central Roundabout loops.
Looking for a longer run on Sunday? Mianus River Gorge is 2.8 miles away on mostly dirt roads. Exit Zofnass at the northern loop onto S. Bedford Road and head west for up to a total of 16 miles of running bliss. See the map here ››
Night Run!!
Friday, November 4, 7:00, meet at the Michigan Road lean-to #5 at 7:00 p.m. for a 7:30 p.m. start. We’ll be running Rob’s Run, a 6.5 mile loop with several options of making it shorter if you want. Anyone who wants to join the fun but doesn’t want to run can tend the fire while we’re out on the trail—that would be very helpful. Bring a headlamp, a change of warm clothes, and some refreshments so you can, you know, rehydrate after the run. Plan to spend some time around the campfire after the run. And bring a few dollars to share the cost of the rental—final cost will be determined based on the number of people that show.
This Sunday, October 9, at 8:00 a.m, meet at the Muscoot Farm parking lot (http://goo.gl/maps/dTDiT) for a course check of the Run the Farm loop. This 5 mile course will start from the parking lot at 8:00 and follow the Run the Farm loop with the exception of finishing in the parking lot. If you’re signed up for the race, you’ll want to come to this course check and test out the trail. Just remember, please keep clear of the main farm and farm equipment and park on the side of the lot away from the farm. And bring some money so you can shop at the farmer’s market after the run. Download a map of the five-mile course here.
And don’t forget to register for the upcoming fall races: Run The Farm, Sunday, October 23 Raven Rocks Run, Sunday, November 13
Next week we’ll be back at the Reservation. Hope to see you out there this weekend. Lee Willett

Great run and one of the first in a long time were we stayed together as a group. Nice job all.
This Sunday, October 2, at 8:00 a.m., the reservation will be hosting its annual Hunter Pace equestrian event so we’ll meet at Sylvan Glen, near Yorktown. This is a former quarry that provided the stone for the ramps to the George Washington and Whitestone bridges and there are remnants throughout the park as a result. We’ll follow a course that will cross one road and continue into Granite Knolls, an adjacent park where we’ll find the giant boulder—you’ll know it when you see it. If you want to continue your run, you can follow the perimeter of Granite Knolls and cross a bridge over the Taconic State Parkway into Woodlands Legacy Fields Park and add an extra 2.5 miles or more of the perimeter loop there. Those that want to start early can arrive at 7:00 a.m.
And don’t forget to register for the upcoming fall races: Run The Farm, Sunday, October 23 Raven Rocks Run, Sunday, November 13

Thanks everyone for coming out and making the Sarah Bishop Bushwack so special. Mark, Barry, and I are already looking forward to next year’s race—we hope you are too.
(That moment when you realize there is no way you can outrun the mass of people running right toward you.)
This Sunday, September 4, at 8:00 a.m., meet at the Ward Pound Ridge Reservation Michigan Road Lot when we run a very special course that we’ve not been on for over three years. I’m not going to bore you with details but I will bring maps. If you have gaiters and/or calf-high socks, I’d suggest you might want those as well—we’re going an an 8-mile adventure. If you want to get an early start, arrive at 7:00 a.m. for a few extra miles.
This Saturday, September 3, at 8:00 a.m., meet at the Ward Pound Ridge Reservation Meadow Lot. No particular course. No particular distance. No particular pace. Just run.
This Monday, September 5, at 8:30 a.m., meet at Mianus River Gorge for a short 5 mile-ish out-and-back. Or there’s the 7 mile bike, 4 mile run, Church Tavern Biathlon in South Salem at 9:30 a.m.—that’s always a good time.
Don’t forget to register for the Trail Mix Races this fall including the Sarah Bishop Bushwhack on September 25. T-shirt orders will be going in in a week or so, so if you want one, you need to sign up.
This Sunday, August 28, at 8:00 a.m., meet at the Ward Pound Ridge Reservation Meadow Lot when we run the RAVEN ROCKS RUN. We haven’t run the full course since January so this is a great chance to refresh your memory of one of the more challenging courses around and kick off the fall Trail Mix Series a little early. If you want to get an early start, arrive at 7:00 a.m. for a few extra miles. See the map page ››

Great to see so many runners out last week, no matter how long your 7 miles were.
This Sunday, June 19, at 8:00 a.m., meet at Westmoreland Sanctuary on Chestnut Ridge Road in Mount Kisco when we run the 5.25 mile perimeter loop. This time, we run the course in a counterclockwise direction and return to the main lot. Those who want an extra challenge can do the Butler loop across the street after the run. That will add another 3+ miles at least for a total of around 8.5. Those looking to start early can arrive at 7:00 a.m. See the map ››
On Saturday, June 18, if you like hills, join me at the Ward Pound Ridge Kimberly Bridge lot for hill repeats up the blue trail. I’ll be running the “front” of the blue trail, elevation gain 400 feet, out-and-back distance 1.2 miles, starting at 6:00 a.m. and continuing for a while. You can join me or just meet there at 8:00 a.m. and run the Kimberly Bridge 6/9.5 loop.
I’m putting together a run of the Escarpment trail on Saturday, July 2. Options of different distances up to 18 miles all on very technical trails in the Catskills. More information is here ›› and let me know if you’re interested.
This Sunday, June 12, at 8:00 a.m., meet at Ward Pound Ridge Michigan Road Lot when we run the Michigan Road Gerrython. Gerry Sullivan has lent his considerable expertise in creating a 13-mile loop that includes some of the toughest trails in the Reservation. You have options for multiple distances from 5 to 13 miles (see map) so pick a distance, pick a color, and stay on course. Those looking to start early can arrive at 7:00 a.m. for a 4-mile warmup loop.
On Saturday, June 11, if you’re looking for a race, there’s the Huntington State Park Challenge in Redding, CT, with distances ranging from 5k to 20k. If you don’t want to race, I recommend meeting at the trail head to lookout point at Mountain Lakes Park and running the MLP 15K course, making the run as long or as short as you want it. We’ll be back here in a few weeks so this is a great opportunity to check out the trails.

Thanks for coming out for the run last weekend although I honestly didn’t know it was “wear your Mild Sprain shirt” day.
This Sunday, June 5, at 8:00 a.m., meet at the Zofnass Family Preserve in Pound Ridge (259 Upper Shad Road, see Google Map) when we run everyone’s favorite labyrinthian preserve with a network of trails noted for its crags and rock outcrops. Meet at the main entrance and follow a 6-mile perimeter loop making all right turns except for exiting the park, and excluding the orange, western loop. See the map page here. Those looking to start early can arrive at 7:00 a.m. which should give us enough time to run the Southern and Central Roundabout loops.
Anyone looking to run Saturday, June 4, at 8:00 a.m., I recommend starting from the Michigan Road lot and running one of the Gerrython courses—up to 13 miles of awesome. There are also a couple of races this Saturday as well—Rockwood Ramble 10k and Phoenicia Ridge Half Marathon—so you have plenty of activities to choose from.
This Sunday, May 29, at 8:00 a.m., meet at the Ward Pound Ridge Reservation Meadow parking lot when we run the Meadow to Overlook loop. The six-mile loop will take you to the Trailside Museum, past the wigwam to Michigan Road and then return via Shoolhouse Road. The climb to the Overlook at mile four is tough but the view is well worth it. For those looking for a longer run, follow the dotted line to Kimberly Bridge and up Blue for a total of 8 miles (I know that puts two of the steepest climbs on the same run but I’m game if you are). And anyone interested in getting an early start can arrive at 7:00 a.m.See the map here ››
On Saturday, May 28, at 8:00 a.m., meet at Bennett’s Pond in Ridgefield. I’m planning on running the Ives trail that links Bennett’s Pond to the Redding train station. Looks to be about 16 miles with elevation gain of 1800 feet. I’m working on the logistics for getting from the finish to the start so email me if you’re interested. You can check out my proposed route here ››
On Monday, May 30, there are the South Salem road races which are always fun but if you want to stay on trails, Mianus River Gorgeis now open. I suggest head over there at 8:30 a.m. for the 5-mile out-and-back trail through this beautiful park. Meet in the lot at 167 Mianus River Road, Bedford, NY.
This Mother’s Day Sunday, May 8, at 8:00 a.m., we’ll run a new course at Blue Mountain—The Twin Peaks run. We’ll meet at the Blue Mountain Lodge and make a counterclockwise loop around the park for a total of 7.7 miles. Options include eliminating the climb to Spitzenberg Mountain and saving a mile or making the loop to the Depew Court lot and adding a mile. You can follow the course on Strava. Once we’re back together, we can head over to Peekskill Coffee House at 101 South Division Street for a cup of joe. Looking to start a little early? Arrive at 7:00 a.m. for a warm-up loop. Try to arrive before 8:00 to avoid any parking fee.
And save next Sunday for a special run at Storm King Art Center. We’ll meet at the entrance to Storm King at 8:45 a.m. for a 9:00 entry into the park which will open early just for us. Tony and Nick Ohnell are working out a course through the park which will take us by some of the most amazing outdoor sculpture. After the run, food will be provided courtesy of Nick. Families are welcome so RSVP to let us know how many are planning on coming please.
This Sunday, April 17, at 8:00 a.m., meet at the Ward Pound Ridge Reservation Meadow Parking lot when we run a course that combines some serious hills with some wide-open trails to stretch your legs. The Meadow, Museum, Fire Tower to Michigan run is 6 miles of awesome that will give you a combination of steep slopes and gentle hills (pretty much in that order). There are some unexpected turns on this course so you’ll want to keep a map handy so you’re sure to stay on-course. It’s easy to take a wrong turn, just sayin’.
For those who want to get an early start on the day, arrive at 7:00 a.m. for a 4-mile run of the BR loop.
Next week I look forward to seeing a lot of you at the Leatherman’s Loop.
Sorry folks for the last-minute change of venue. If anyone wants to go to the NICA:NY XC Bike Race, go to Blue Mountain as planned. On Sunday, April 3, at 8:00 a.m., we’re going to pivot to the Ward Pound Ridge Trailside Museum for the Trailside to Overlook Run. You’ll have distances of 7.7, 6.3, or 5 miles but your mileage may vary. If you’re looking for even more miles, there are plenty of options for that. Looking to start a little early? Arrive at 7:00 a.m. for a warm-up. See the map here ››
Next week we’ll be back at the Reservation for the Raven Rocks Run as we get closer to the Leatherman’s Loop.

Thanks for coming out last week for the Red/Rock trail run and welcoming some new faces to the crowd.
On Sunday, February 14, at 8:00 a.m., meet at the Teatown Lake Reservation, 1600 Spring Valley Rd #1, Ossining, NY 10562, and run an out-and-back course on the Teatown Kitchawan Trail. The course consists of relatively easy trails, a dirt road, and a small stretch of pavement. The full course is 13.2 miles round trip marked as the gray line on the map but you can turn back at any point for a shorter run.
We’ll start at the Teatown Lake Reservation which has a HEATED nature center open at 9:00 a.m. After the run, you can bring a thermos of something warm to drink or something to eat and hang out while getting warm. It’s going to be cold out there on Sunday, I’m not going to lie about that, so dress warmly. If you’d like to get a few miles in early, arrive at 7:00 a.m.
This Sunday, January 3, at 8:00 a.m., meet at the Ward Pound Ridge Trailside Museum when we run the Museum to Blue Route. This 7-mile course starts down the Orange trail and winds its way to Raven Rocks and back by the Blue trail. While it’s 7 miles, the course avoids the steepest uphills (if you can believe that). Options are listed for 6.5 mile and 5.75 mile options as well. Anyone interested in starting early can arrive by 7:00 a.m. for a shorter loop.
On Saturday, January 2, at 8:00 a.m., meet at the Teatown Lake Reservation, 1600 Spring Valley Rd #1, Ossining, NY 10562, and run an out-and-back Teatown Kitchawan Trail. The full course is 15 miles round trip but you can turn back at any point you’d like for a shorter run. Virgil Bretz will arrange for cofee, tea, water and homemade power cookies at the finish. Looking to start the year off right? On Friday, January 1, at 9:00 a.m., how about a run through Blue Mountain with the MYX 5.5 Mile Loop. I’ve already checked with the Peekskill Coffee House and they will be open that day so show up, place your breakfast order, go run, and enjoy your crepe afterward. Their number is 914-739-1287. But bring your own maps, I’m not sure I’ll make this run. See the PCH menu here›› | View the meeting spot in Google Maps ›› | Download Course Map (PDF) ››
This Sunday, December 27, at 8:00 a.m., meet at the Lewisboro Town Park upper lot when we run a new variation of our annual Fat Ass run which will take us from the Town Park to the Overlook. This is the perfect antidote to the holiday sluggishness for sure. You’ll start up the Town Park Hill, climb Fox Hill, and make a third climb to the Overlook. Don’t worry, it’s not all uphill—there are some nice downhills in the Pine Forest and CB trails. If you’re not up for the full 7.8 miles, there are options for shorter distances as well. Those looking to start early can arrive at 7:00 a.m. for a short loop.
On Saturday, December 26, at 7:45 a.m., Kevin Rader will lead a 9 mile run at Bear mountain. Meet at 7:45 a.m. at the north end of the Hessian Lake Parking Lot, near the ice rink. Anyone looking to ride share can meet at the Woods Bridge commuter lot in Katonah at 7:00 a.m. Check out the map page here ››
On Thursday, December 24, at 8:30 a.m., meet at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation Meadow Lot and run the Leatherman’s Dry Loop. Sure, we’re a month away from the Looper Bowl but you might as well check out the trails. And with the warm temperatures, you might even consider the water crossings and mud flats of the actual course (though the mud flats are likely overgrown with buckthorn and the field before the last water crossing is unmowed and tick-infested).
This Sunday, December 20, at 8:00 a.m., meet at Ward Pound Ridge Meadow lot when we run a new course—the Rock Trail 8 Mile Loop. We’ll head south through the meadow trails and return via FH. In between we’re going to see the Bear Rock Petroglyph, Spy Rock, the Stairs, Castle Rock, Raven Rocks, Indian Rock Shelter, and plenty more rocks along the way. If you’re looking for something less ambitious, there’s a 5.5 mile loop as well. Those looking to start early can arrive at 7:00 a.m. for a short loop.
Once again everyone has displayed a heart of gold toward Eamonn. His desire to succeed is shadowed only by his love of running and you guys have helped that love to grow with your support of his nationals trips. His desire for a real “cross country” course at nationals as can only be created by the Leathermans Harriers may never be realized, but he will always be proud to represent the true trail runners on the tame courses of the Junior Olympics. I thank you for being there for him as you always have.
Peace,
Gerry
And from Eamonn:
Dear Leatherman Harriers,
I would like to say that I am extremely thankful for all the support that you have given me. You have made it clear that you are happy I like to run and that you care. Thank you for all of your contributions.
Sincerely,
Eamonn Sullivan
P.S. Leatherman Harriers is the only real running group.
This Sunday, December 13, at 8:00 a.m., meet at the Zofnass Family Preserve in Pound Ridge (259 Upper Shad Road, see Google Map) when we run everyone’s favorite labyrinthian preserve with a network of trails noted for its crags and rock outcrops.
And anyone looking to run Saturday, December 12, Kevin Rader is going to head up to Bear Mountain early, starting at 7:30 a.m. and running the North Face Challenge original 10k route that includes a boatload of climb but an awesome view from the course. Meet at 7:30 a.m. at the north end of the Hessian Lake Parking Lot, near the ice rink. Anyone looking to ride share can meet at the Woods Bridge commuter lot in Katonah at 6:50 a.m. Check out the map page here ››
This Sunday, December 6, at 8:00 a.m., meet at Sylvan Glen near Yorktown. If you want to continue your run, you can follow the perimeter of Granite Knolls and cross a bridge over the Taconic State Parkway into Woodlands Legacy Fields Park and add an extra 2.5 miles of the perimeter loop there. For those that are racing the Taconic Relay, we’ll do an easy out-and-back as a warm-up then head over to Blue Mountain at 9:00. Those that want to start early can arrive at 7:00 a.m. Park at the lot across from 2857 Grant Avenue, Mohegan Lake, NY, on the western entrance to the park and see the map page here ››

EXCITING HARRIER NEWS:
Eamonn Sullivan, our youngest regular Sunday Runner, qualified for the 3rd year in a row for the Junior Nationals Cross Country competition.Congratulations to Eamonn on this exceptional accomplishment. This year the national meet is in Albuquerque, NM on December 12th. New Mexico is a long way away. Gerry is taking Eamonn — but as you might guess, this trip can be very expensive. In addition to missing work, expenses include paying for both airfares, several days of hotel bookings, and meals while traveling. Gerry has never asked for help — but in the past few years we have passed the hat at our Sunday Runs holiday party. All of you runners have been generous with support. Unfortunately, we won’t be having the holiday party until after the new year comes. So this year we are going to pass the hat at the next few group runs then pass everything on to Gerry before he and Eamonn make the trek west. Thanks to everyone.

Sure, the map is hard to follow but the trails are marked so what’s the worst that can happen, right? See the map here ››

We’ll follow a course that will cross one road and continue into Granite Knolls, an adjacent park where we’ll find the giant boulder—you’ll know it when you see it. A couple of our runners registered for the Loop but were unable to run at the time so they’re going to be running with their bibs.
