New York’s Mid-Hudson region has entered Phase 3 of reopening.

We will continue to maintain safe practices to prevent any potential spread of Coronavirus. I’ll bring a camera to take a group photo but you can probably stand a little closer than last week if you, and the people around you, feel comfortable.

  • Maintain social distancing before, during, and after the run
  • Run abreast where possible to keep out of each other’s slipstreams
  • Stagger start times, courses, and directions to maintain smaller groups
  • Wear masks or buffs/neck gaiters when in the parking lots and when you see others on the trail even if they don’t do the same.

Hope to see you out there this weekend.

The course is marked below in red and makes a loop of some of the trails on the northern part of the park. Registration is not required to participate in the run. For questions, see Dan Kortick. Learn more about the event here ›› Participating in the fundraiser is optional so come out anyway and we can run the course then head out on a longer loop afterward on one of the Meadow to Overlook v2 courses.

New York’s Mid-Hudson region has entered Phase I of reopening.

While there are no specific guidelines covering trail running, we will continue to practice safe social distancing to protect ourselves and our communities. I won’t be taking any group photos for a while so runners can start running their choice of courses when they arrive. Keep to solo running or small groups and, please follow these guidelines:

  • Maintain social distancing before, during, and after the run
  • Run abreast where possible to keep out of each other’s slipstreams
  • Stagger start times, courses, and directions to maintain smaller groups
  • Wear masks or buffs/neck gaiters when in the parking lots and when you see others on the trail even if they don’t do the same. Let’s show the community that we want to keep the trails a respectful and safe space for all.

With these precautions, I’m hoping we can all stay healthy.

Runs Canceled

In order to comply with the new NYS guidelines, and to protect our running community and local communities, Sunday Runs will not be hosting group runs until further notice. Stay safe all.

We know, however, that this group of people thrives on the physical and mental health benefits of outdoor activity. To that end, I refer you to our robust “Maps” tab and encourage you to download a map and take a run as needed. Perhaps bring a friend for safety in the event of injury, but maintain safe social distancing. Another suggestion is to coordinate with a small group of friends and exercise the “beacon,” “follow a friend” feature, or join the Leatherman Harriers Strava Group and see what everyone is doing. Run together at a distance, or at separate times and places, but be aware and watchful of one another. We don’t want you out there alone if you run into trouble. If you need help finding a group to connect with that way, please message SundayRuns and we will hook you up. More info here ››

March 22, Trailside Museum

SUNDAY: TRAILSIDE MUSEUM

On Sunday, March 22, between 7:00 and 8:00 a.m., meet at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation, Trailside Museum Lot, ready to run the Trailside Multiloop. This course offers a variety of distances from 2 to 13 miles and can be run in either clockwise or counterclockwise direction. To minimize the risk of spreading coronavirus by keeping to relatively small groups, arrive anytime between 7:00 and 8:00 a.m., take a map, and get running. Those looking to start early can arrive at 5:00 a.m. and finish the perimeter loop before 8:00.

see map

SATURDAY: MEADOW LOT

On Saturday, March 21, between 7:00 and 7:30, meet at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation, Meadow Lot, ready to run the Meadow Half Marathon. You have options for distances from 4.5 to 13.1 miles (by combining the two longest loops) and the course can be run in either direction. To minimize the risk of spreading coronavirus by keeping to relatively small groups, arrive anytime between 7:00 and 7:30 a.m., take a map, and get running.

Coronavirus Info: given the current circumstances, group running is not recommended (ie, downwind aerosolized particulate, people breathing heavily right in front of you, the occasional misdirected snot rocket, etc.). Attending a group run is a risky proposition—do not attend if you want to stay 100% safe. That said, for anyone who does come, I’d suggest that we take precautions. Keep a wider distance between you and other runners before, during, and after the run, break into individual and small groups and run different routes, wear a buff around your nose and mouth, and run abreast rather than ahead wherever possible. More info here ››

Great seeing so many out this past Sunday. I know that it’s great to be able to spend time on the trails when so much is going on in our lives. I look forward to running with you through these times and hope that with precautions, we’ll be able to remain healthy.

SUNDAY: MICHIGAN ROAD

Since the New York half marathon has been canceled, I’ll give you the option of your own half marathon with a modified perimeter loop. You also have options for a 10 mile, 7 mile, and 5 mile loop as well so you can take different trails and run different directions to minimize potential virus exposure. Early risers can start at 5:00 and head over to Kimberly Bridge for a few blue hill repeats or at 7:00 for a loop of the Red trail. As always, Rookie Runners start at 7:00.

SATURDAY: Meadow Lot

On Saturday, March 14, at 7:00 a.m., meet at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation, Meadow lot, ready to run the Meadow Multiloop. This course gives you options for distances from 2 to 11 miles and can be run in either direction so as to minimize potential virus exposure.

If you’re looking for something less ambitious, there’s a 5.5 mile loop as well. Those looking to start early can arrive at 5:00 a.m. or  7:00 a.m. for added distance.
And as usual, Rookie Runners start at 7:00 a.m.

SATURDAY, MEADOW LOT

On Saturday, February 29, at 7:00 a.m., meet at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation ready to run the Snowy Owl Run. Before the run, we can check out the Meadow bridge—there’s been progress. See the map ››

UPDATE

Real progress has been made on the bridges over the past week. I’m hopeful that I’ll be able to put a greater variety of runs on the calendar soon. Also, with the warm weather, watch out for ticks. They’re starting early this year. Hope to see you out there this weekend.

SUNDAY, KIMBERLY BRIDGE

Options include the full 9 miles but since this is an out-and-back course, you can turn around at any point for a shorter run. This course passes through three different preserves with various terrain. Early risers can start at 5:00 a.m. or 7:00 a.m. Your choice what you want to start with but since the Blue Hill is right there, you might want to dedicate some time to a few repeats. Or make a loop of blue for a 3.8 miles.

SATURDAY, LEWISBORO TOWN PARK

On Saturday, February 22, at 7:00 a.m., meet at Lewisboro Town Park, Upper Lot, ready to run the Town Park to Kimberly Multidistance Loop. This offers runners distances from 6 to 11 miles starting and finishing on the same trails. I recommend the 7 or 9 mile loops. The group can decide on site.

ALSO ON SATURDAY

On Saturday, February 22, at 7:30 a.m., meet at Bear Mountain, Ice Rink Lot, to run the 5 Sisters course. This 13+ mile, quad-shredding exercise in futility, contains 4700 feet of gain so you know it’s going to be a tough run. Come prepared, you have been warned. Options include 8, 6.5, and 5 mile distances or get lost and see how many miles you can do. The challenge to this course is the weaving back-and-forth between adjacent trails so stay sharp with regard to turns. Since this is an out-and-back, there are plenty of ways to shorten the course if necessary. see map

Sunday, Meadow Lot

On Sunday, February 2, at 8:00 a.m., meet at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation Meadow Lot when we run an annual favorite—The Looper Bowl. It’s all the fun of the Leatherman’s Loop but colder and with a chance for snow and ice. You won’t want to miss this! If you don’t want to get your feet wet, there is an option to avoid the water crossings and even the mud flats but the final map will be determined the morning of the run. Looking to start early? Arrive at 5:00, 6:00, or 7:00 for some additional loops.

Saturday, Tusk & Cup

This Saturday, February 1, at 7:00 a.m., meet at Tusk and Cup coffee shop, 51 Ethan Allen Highway, Ridgefield CT, and prepare to run the 11 mile Brew to Brews run through Devil’s Den and Saugatuck. Options include the full 11 miles and an abbreviated 6 mile version. Since weather conditions may be, *ahem*, less than ideal, we’ll make a determination on the final course over coffee that morning. Options include the Devil’s Den to Saugatuck run, the Devil’s Ledge run, or even the Saugatuck Loop which is longer but a little easier by most measures. Details here ››

Enjoy the photo from the past run at Mountain Lakes Park. Registration is open for the Sarah Bishop Bushwhack 10k and double 10k in the fall. It’s a great event. Learn more ››
